Sacrament Program 2024-11-10
Classic “Dear Sacrament Program” advice columns, August 18, 2016:
Dear SP,
I have a question about getting a calling that I want. I feel like I could do a great job as bishop, and I could definitely do a better job than my current bishop. lol. I’ve been faithful all my life and have been serving in Young Men’s for years now. I feel like I deserve to finally get a calling that I want. What should I do to convince God to call me as Bishop?

Dear Ambitious,
It’s great to see a member who wants to do their duty and progress the kingdom. So many are just willing to sit back and accept whatever calling they are given. The best way to get a calling that you want (assuming you’re keeping all the commandments which I’m sure you are based on your ambition) is to take the sacrament as many times as you can every Sunday. At least 5 times are required to be called as Bishop. Given that you are in Utah you should be able to find a sacrament meeting close to your house every hour, or maybe even every half hour from 9:00 to noon or 1:00 (Young Single Adult Wards often meet late, so they are a great help). Once you start gaining weight from the sacrament bread and water, God is sure to take notice.
